Flight Training at ChrisAir Aviation

Private Pilot

 Certificate Requirements (FAA Part 61) 

 Minimum Age

  • 17 years old (16 to solo)


Medical Certificate

  • FAA Third-Class Medical (or BasicMed if eligible)


Knowledge Test

  • FAA Private Pilot Airplane Written Exam (60 questions)


Flight Training

  • Minimum 40 flight hours
    • 20 hours with an instructor
    • 10 hours solo
  • National average: 60–70 hours to earn the certificate


Required Training

  • Preflight preparation
  • Airport operations
  • Takeoffs & landings
  • Navigation & cross-country flying
  • Night flying
  • Basic instrument flying
  • Emergency procedures
  • Ground reference maneuvers
  • Stalls & slow flight


Checkride

  • Oral exam
  • Practical flight test with an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE)


Privileges

  • Fly single-engine aircraft
  • Carry passengers
  • Fly day or night in Visual Flight Rules (VFR) conditions
  • Share operating expenses (within FAA rules)


Instrument Rating

 Certificate Requirements (FAA Part 61) 

Eligibility

  • Hold a Private Pilot Certificate
  • FAA Third-Class Medical (or BasicMed if eligible)


Knowledge Test

  • FAA Instrument Rating Airplane Written Exam (60 questions)


Flight Experience

  • 50 hours of cross-country PIC time
  • 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time
    • At least 15 hours with a CFII
    • One IFR cross-country flight meeting FAA requirements

  • IFR departures & arrivals
  • En route navigation
  • Weather interpretation & decision making

Checkride

  • Oral exam

  • Fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR)
  • Operate safely in the clouds and reduced visibility
  • Access more airports and weather conditions
  • Increase safety, capability, and confidence in the National Airspace System


Commercial Pilot

 Certificate Requirements (FAA Part 61) 

Eligibility

  • Hold a Private Pilot Certificate
  • FAA Second-Class Medical (minimum)


Knowledge Test

  • FAA Commercial Pilot Airplane Written Exam (100 questions)


Flight Experience

  • 250 total flight hours
  • 100 hours in powered aircraft
  • 100 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC)
  • 50 hours cross-country PIC
  • 10 hours in a complex or technically advanced aircraft (TAA)
  • Required day, night, solo/PIC, and cross-country training per FAA regulations

  • Power-Off 180 Accuracy Landings

  • Practical flight test with an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE)


Privileges

  • Fly for compensation or hire (within FAA regulations)
  • Perform commercial operations such as aerial photography, banner towing, sightseeing flights, pipeline patrol, and more
  • Build experience toward Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certification


Flight Instructor

 Certificate Requirements (FAA Part 61) 

Eligibility

  • Hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate or ATP
  • Hold a valid FAA Medical (if acting as PIC)
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Read, speak, write, and understand English


Knowledge Tests

  • FAA Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI)
  • FAA Flight Instructor Airplane (FIA)


Training Includes

  • Teaching techniques & lesson planning
  • FAA regulations
  • Fundamentals of instruction
  • Spin awareness, entry, and recovery (endorsement required)
  • Demonstrating and teaching all Private & Commercial maneuvers
  • Risk management & aeronautical decision-making


Checkride

  • Comprehensive oral exam
  • Practical flight test demonstrating both flying and instructional ability


Privileges

  • Train and endorse student pilots
  • Provide instruction for Private, Commercial, and Flight Reviews
  • Build valuable flight time while helping others achieve their aviation goals
  • Prepare students for FAA knowledge tests and practical exams
